The Green Days Congress and Expo Viherpäivät seminary theme is ” Vital Urban Green Spaces”. The theme reflects on the many meanings of near green. How can living greenery be planned and implemented? How can we increase the green spaces in the cities and how can the ever-densifying urban areas offer space for everyone? How do various construction projects take into account local greenery and future maintenance measures? Is there enough talk about the importance of maintaining green areas?

”Vital urban green spaces are an important part of ecosystems and the environment in many ways. They provide a habitat for animals, plants and small organisms, but are also a prerequisite for human activity. The living greenery improves the sustainability of the environment, promotes biodiversity and reduces harmful environmental effects. At the same time, it creates more comfortable and healthier spaces for both residents and the surrounding community. Living greenery helps regulate the climate, offers aesthetic benefits and increases the value of real estate. In addition, vegetation is an important part of many ecological processes, such as the circulation of nutrients and the regulation of water resources in all environments. Living greenery should be maintained in all habitats, also in densely built-up areas. Nurturing, preserving and increasing it is important to support biodiversity and safeguard the health of ecosystems.”
